Clarity
The third "C", Clarity, is defined as the presence or absence of natural inclusions in the diamond. The GIA scale commences at "flawless" and continues down to "I1 I2 and I3". The Federal Trade Commission actually governs Gemologists stating that ... "If a Gemologist views a diamond under 10X magnification and sees no natural inclusions, that diamond can be graded as flawless". This definition by the FTC initiates the clarity scale.
Clarity represents the size, number, and location of natural inclusions in a gemstone.
VVS stands for Very Very Slight Inclusions.
VS stands for Very Slight Inclusions.
SI stands for Slight Inclusions.
I stands for Inclusions which are visible to a Gemologist's eye without any magnification. (Most women would make good gemologists!)
